FEAR in Review [20 Dec 2009|11:21pm]

Hey guys! I saw this on FEARnet.com and wanted to share. Every movie site has their top 10 list for 2009, but FEARnet has their list of top HORROR movies of 2009, which I thought was pretty awesome. All week they're going to be putting out more lists, like best horror TV moments of '09, horror surprises of '09, and horror-movies-that-haven't-even-been-released-yet of '09.

And without further ado...
FEARnet's Top 9 Movies of '09

Okay, I'm new here, so here goes. [06 Feb 2007|12:31am]

I volunteered for the Toronto International Film Festival last summer, and I got to sneak in to tons of movies. This Norwegian film called Reprise blew my mind. The catch is that I got busted fifteen minutes before the ending and was appointed elsewhere for duty! So since then, I've been trying to track this movie down. Last I heard, it was also featured at the Sundance Festival. Not that I cry about it, and nor am I willing to shell out hundreds of dollars for airfare and accomodations in Europe, but it's depressing knowing that Reprise will probably be never released in North American cinemas.

So, has anyone else here seen Reprise? If so, does anyone know if the DVD is out yet? If not, please just tell me how it ends.

deadgirlsclub Community is starting to bubble. . . [13 Jan 2006|03:34pm]

[ mood | excited ]

DEAD GIRLS CLUB.COM is the headquarters for the major Hollywood feature film set for filming this coming spring. At the website, they are in the process of searching for a young actress and actor ages 15-mid 20's who can play a high school senior. The winner will be flown with a guest to Los Angeles to film their role in the movie.

The secret to this competition is that America will be picking the young actor and actress from entries posted on the website in March. So your chances of getting a featured role in the film will be determined by the number of entries. There will be national exposure that will be increasing through each of the legs of the competition.

Since all of America will be judging the competition, the deadgirlsclub community is the place for competitors in the SCREAM QUEEN & KING acting competition to promote themselves and place their video clips. We will also be the unofficial clearing house for all-things "Dead Girls", so from time-to-time, we'll have inside info (the filmmakers are friends of mine), so keep your eyes here, and take part!

Come on and get pledged to The deadgirlsclub!

Chantal Akerman (cross-posted) [06 Sep 2005|02:13pm]

I was told by a friend that, given my tastes and personality, I would like Chantal Akerman's work a lot, and I was just curious to know if anyone has heard of her or seen her work.

If so, what are some movies that you would recommend by her?  And what is your opinion of her work?

Thanks so much!

Just saw this [06 Sep 2005|10:02am]

A new film to watch!

Sexy sexy sexy goodness, for our lawsuit happy time of course. The new film Consent cracked me up. As with most of my finds, I got it over at atomfilms.com which means, it's free to view but you hafta watch an ad. Sorry about that.

From what I heard though, this director, Jason Reitman, had a few shorts on Atomfilms and now has a deal for a feature. Good to know if you make short films...

First post, x-posted.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Directed by: Tim Burton
Screenplay: John August
Starring: Johnny Depp (Willy Wonka) and Freddie Highmore (Charlie Bucket)

I'd like to start off by saying that in spite of what many many people have been saying, this is not a remake. I'd also like to preface this by saying that I went into this film with the highest expectations you could possibly imagine. This has to do with the fact that Tim Burton directed it and he has been one of my favorites ever since I was a young child. That said, on with the review!

For film people: [30 May 2005|05:14pm]

If you are studying to be a director, actress, director of photography, film editor, or even a screenplay writer.

I'm setting up a website in a week or so.

Ideally, it will be a community for students nation-wide. Aspiring directors, DP's, set designers, screenwriters, and actors will be able to collaborate with each other to create films that suit their own artistic vision and cinematic goals. This will be a non-profit site to encourage collaboration and the production of films. There are too many students who are wasting their time when they could be off shooting or acting in movie.

I'll have forums and ads where you can post your role (actor, director, DP, songwriter). You can exchange phone numbers with other students in the same area. In my opinion, this is the best way to assemble a closely knit, efficient, and serious movie crew. If you are serious about working in the film, please email me at dcho787@fastmail.fm. I will reply shortly with a link to the site.

The Ring 2 [17 Mar 2005|08:30am]

It opens Tomorrow. Are you going to see it?

I really enjoyed the Ring, and am hoping that the sequel is at least nearly as good; I’m excited to see it. But then recognizing that most sequels are garbage or at least don’t measure up the magic(for lack of a better word) of the original; that excitement is tempered with cynicism and a feeling I’m going to be smacked across the face with disappointment.

In Scream 2 there’s a scene where two characters debate whether there’s ever been a horror film sequel as a good as the original.

So those are my questions to you. If you liked The Ring, are you going to see Ring 2? Secondly, what horror films have had sequels that were at least good even if not quite as good as the original?
